Fujiwara no Morokane (藤原師兼)

FUJIWARA no Morokane (1048 - April 7, 1076) was a Kugyo (court noble) who lived during the late Heian period. He was the second son of FUJIWARA no Toshiie. His mother was a daughter of MINAMOTO no Takakuni. Among his children were FUJIWARA no Iesuke and FUJIWARA no Toshiyasu. His daughter was married to FUJIWARA no Munemichi after she entered the kokyu (empress's residence) of the retired Emperor Shirakawa.

In 1061 Morokane was given the rank of Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade) and the post of Jiju (a chamberlain). In 1062, he became Ukone no shosho (Minor Captain of the Right Division of Inner Palace Guards). In 1063, he was promoted to Jugoinojo (Junior Fifth Rank, Upper Grade) and given the posts of Sashosho (Minor Captain of the Left Division of Inner Palace Guards) and Mimasaka no Gon no suke (Provisional Assistant Governor of Mimasaka Province). In 1065, he was promoted to Shogoinoge (Senior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade). In 1067, he was promoted again to Jushiinoge (Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade) and then to Jushiinojo (Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade) with the post of Uchujo (Middle Captain of the Right Division of Inner Palace Guards) and then to Shoshiinoge (Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade). In 1069 he became Sachujo (Middle Captain of the Left Division of Inner Palace Guards). In 1074, he was given Iyo no suke (assistant governor of Iyo Province) as an additional post. In 1074, he was conferred to Sangi (councilor) at the age of 27. In 1075 he was assigned to Iyo no Gon no kami (Provisional Governor of Iyo Province) as an additional post. Morokane died at the age of 29 in 1076.
